このコラムではLIBERTY代表、藤川恭宏のご学友の国際法の教授であられた長田祐卓 (Osada Yutaka) 先生のボキャブラリー集を皆様に提供させていただきます。 長田先生は慶應義塾大学、法学部、同大学院（博士課程在学中、アメリカトップランキング校の一つ、ジョージタウン大学ローセンターに留学）博士課程終了後、母校慶応大学、駿河台大学、尚美学園大学、大学院で教鞭を取られました。国際法の中でも特に宇宙法を研究され、慶応大学から今年、博士号を授与されました。

furrow [フゥロウ] (n.) あぜの溝、耕作地、（溝のような）細長い窪み、深い皺、(vt.) 溝を作る、皺を作

畑にあぜ溝を耕した。
plow someone’s own furrow (Brit.)（文語）人と違うことをする
*plow the same furrowは「人と同じことをする」、plow a lone furrow だと「一人でやる、誰もやらなことをする」の意味。
She was not afraid to plough her own furrow.
人と違うことをするのが怖くなかった。
She has had to plough a lone/lonely furrow in her pursuit of reform.
改革を追求する上で独自のことをやらなければならなかった。
