Vocabulary Building from Mr. Osada : Day1
このコラムではLIBERTY代表、藤川恭宏のご学友の国際法の教授であられた長田祐卓 (Osada Yutaka) 先生のボキャブラリー集を皆様に提供させていただきます。
長田先生は慶應義塾大学、法学部、同大学院（博士課程在学中、アメリカトップランキング校の一つ、ジョージタウン大学ローセンターに留学）博士課程終了後、母校慶応大学、駿河台大学、尚美学園大学、大学院で教鞭を取られました。国際法の中でも特に宇宙法を研究され、慶応大学から今年、博士号を授与されました。
このコラムでは特別に長田祐卓先生の長年、蓄積されたとても貴重なボキャブラリー集をご紹介させていただくことになりました。
長田先生は日々、英字新聞（New York Times, Washington Post, New Yorker,etc.）を読まれている中で、面白い表現、役に立つ単語を集められています。

abet [アベット] (vt.)
（活動や計画を）積極的に支援する、励ます、（目的達成に向けて）助ける、支援する
（犯罪などを）幇助する、教唆する、けしかける、扇動する
Did he abet the commission of a crime? 彼は犯罪の実行を幇助したか。
Their actions were shown to abet terrorism. 彼らの行動がテロを煽ったことが証明された。
He was abetted in the deception by his wife. 妻に詐欺をそそのかされた。

ablaze [アブレイズ] (adj. adv.) 燃え立って、輝いて、興奮して
set something ablaze 炎上させる

abort [アボート] (vi. vt.) 妊娠中絶する、失敗する
The plants’ buds abort. 植物の芽が発育しない。
They decided to abort the pregnancy. 妊娠中絶すると決めた。*abort a fetusも同義。
