Vocabulary Building from Mr. Osada : Day45

このコラムではLIBERTY代表、藤川恭宏のご学友の国際法の教授であられた長田祐卓 (Osada Yutaka) 先生のボキャブラリー集を皆様に提供させていただきます。

 

長田先生は慶應義塾大学、法学部、同大学院（博士課程在学中、アメリカトップランキング校の一つ、ジョージタウン大学ローセンターに留学）博士課程終了後、母校慶応大学、駿河台大学、尚美学園大学、大学院で教鞭を取られました。国際法の中でも特に宇宙法を研究され、慶応大学から今年、博士号を授与されました。

 

このコラムでは特別に長田祐卓先生の長年、蓄積されたとても貴重なボキャブラリー集をご紹介させていただくことになりました。

callused [キャラスト](adj.) たこができた

callused, twisted hands　たこのある、捻じれた手 *callus(n.v.)の過去分詞が形容詞化したもの。

 

callously (adv.) 麻痺した態度で、無感覚に

 

callousness (n.) 情熱・感覚を欠いていること、無神経さ

She attributed the negative reaction — especially from those who found no deeper cultural meaning and simply called the designs ugly — to the callousness of the fashion industry.

特に、深い文化的意味を解せず単純にそのデザインが醜いと言っている人たちの否定的な反応をファッション業界の無神経さのせいにしった。

エンジンの多くの部品が中古車から取り外された。

We believe the two perfumes appeal to different buyers and won’t cannibalize one another’s sales.

この二つの香水は異なる買手にアピールしているので共食いにならないと思う。
