Vocabulary Building from Mr. Osada : Day30

このコラムではLIBERTY代表、藤川恭宏のご学友の国際法の教授であられた長田祐卓 (Osada Yutaka) 先生のボキャブラリー集を皆様に提供させていただきます。

 

長田先生は慶應義塾大学、法学部、同大学院（博士課程在学中、アメリカトップランキング校の一つ、ジョージタウン大学ローセンターに留学）博士課程終了後、母校慶応大学、駿河台大学、尚美学園大学、大学院で教鞭を取られました。国際法の中でも特に宇宙法を研究され、慶応大学から今年、博士号を授与されました。

 

このコラムでは特別に長田祐卓先生の長年、蓄積されたとても貴重なボキャブラリー集をご紹介させていただくことになりました。

何年もの苛酷な低迷の後、日本は急に派手な生活スタイルを少し取り戻している。

 

blink　(vi.) 瞬く、驚く、明滅する、見逃す、屈服する

She blinked when the the light flashed. ライトがぴかっと光ったとき、瞬きした。

The red light was blinking. 赤い明かりが明滅していた。

Both sides in the dispute are determined not to blink first.

紛争の両当事者は先に屈服しないと決めている。

blood (n.)

bloviate [ブロウビエイト] (vi.) くどくど大げさに話す（書く）

　*政治家やニュース解説者に対して使われることが多い。

 

Talking heads bloviate about their angst.

テレビに解説者は自分たちに抱く懸念についてくどくど大げさに話す
